The European Medical Journal: EMJ 4.2 2019
London, United Kingdom, June 13, 2019
The second edition of our flagship journal for 2019, European Medical Journal 4.2, offers a range of informative and stimulating peer-reviewed papers from across our therapeutic areas: from dermatology to cardiology, and much more. This edition includes a paper from our EMJ Respiratory Editor in Chief, Antoni Rossi, who discusses immunotherapy in small cell lung cancer, delving into first, second, and later-line treatments. For a disease with poor prognosis, research such as this is critical.
EMJ 4.2’s Editor’s Pick is not to be missed for those with a keen interest in asthma; this thought-provoking paper looks at the sex differences for both paediatric and adult patients with asthma. The authors reported an interesting find: there is a prevalence to asthma for males in childhood, which appears to switch to a female prevalence in adulthood. This can be attributed to a change in hormones as people age. It is hoped that this research will make strides towards better treatment for patients with asthma.
For the oncology experts, Emily Bryer and Lee Hartner present a patient case report and look at a range of tumours in their paper: ‘The Heart of the Matter: A Unique Convergence of Cardiac Neoplasm, Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer, and Spindle Cell Sarcoma’. Cancer is also a focus for Katarzyna Rygiel, who investigates the relationship between obesity, breast cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Rygiel’s recommendations include a focus on development of a weight management programme for patients, reminding readers of the impact of lifestyle choices.
These are just a handful of the brilliant research papers presented in EMJ 4.2, which also features two symposium reviews, both of which focus on inflammatory bowel disease. For healthcare professionals from all fields, this edition of EMJ’s flagship journal is not one to be missed! https://www.emjreviews.com/european-medical-journal/journal/european-medical-journal-4-2-2019/
